Sunderland AFC’s Legends’ Way is set to give supporters their own permanent place at the Stadium of Light.
Built around club history, fan pride and the matchday experience, the project will use engraved fan stones and supporter stones to create a landmark that celebrates both Sunderland legends and the fans who continue to shape the club’s story.

The Challenge
Legends’ Way isn’t about simply installing engraved stones outside a stadium. It’s about creating a space supporters will genuinely want to be part of. A place that will honour Sunderland’s heritage, recognise key figures like Jimmy Montgomery, and give fans the chance to leave their own mark.
The project needs to:
- Deliver a premium supporter stones scheme at scale
- Reflect the pride and history of Sunderland AFC
- Give supporters a range of accessible and premium options
- Work as part of a wider stadium redevelopment
- Stand up to heavy footfall while maintaining quality
Getting that balance right is key.
The Solution
Intaglio is helping bring Legends’ Way to life through a carefully planned engraved fan stones scheme designed to combine fan pride, placemaking and long-term value.

Built around supporter choice
Legends’ Way gives fans the opportunity to choose how they become part of Sunderland’s story. Through a range of engraved fan stones and supporter stones, supporters can celebrate their own loyalty, honour family and friends, or create a lasting tribute that secures their place at the Stadium of Light. Different price points are available.

A new matchday landmark
Legends’ Way will create a new focal point for fans arriving on matchdays. The redevelopment is designed to reshape the Roker End exterior into a destination in its own right, creating a visible, permanent space that connects supporters to the club before they even reach the turnstiles.

Heritage built into every step
At the heart of the scheme will sit Wembley Path, celebrating Sunderland’s iconic 1973 FA Cup victory by linking the Bob Stokoe statue with the future Jimmy Montgomery statue. Alongside this, 14 Legend Stones chosen through a fan vote will honour key figures from Sunderland’s history. The return of the historic ‘Welcome to Sunderland’ sign from Roker Park will add another powerful link between past and present, helping weave club heritage directly into the supporter experience.
The Results
Once complete, Legends’ Way is set to become an important part of the Stadium of Light experience.
It will create a dedicated space where supporters can be recognised alongside club history, while giving Sunderland a long-term asset that combines fan engagement with commercial value.
The project is set to deliver:
- A premium engraved fan stones installation
- A large-scale supporter stones project built around heritage
- A stronger supporter connection
- A new focal point for the stadium approach
- A lasting tribute to both club legends and fans
For Sunderland AFC, Legends’ Way is shaping up to be a powerful way to honour the past while giving supporters something real to be part of.
For Intaglio, it’s another example of delivering supporter stone schemes that are built properly, look the part and mean something.
