A permanent place for reflection at Anfield.
In recognition of the 35th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, Liverpool Football Club appointed Intaglio to deliver the Hillsborough Survivors’ Bench beside the Hillsborough Memorial at Anfield.
The engraved bench provides a dedicated place for survivors and families to sit, reflect and remember, positioned within one of football’s most significant memorial spaces.

The Challenge
This was not a commercial installation. It was a memorial project.
Liverpool Football Club appointed Intaglio to deliver the Survivors’ Bench with the care and sensitivity the setting required. The bench needed to honour the courage and resilience of those affected by Hillsborough while sitting appropriately alongside the existing Memorial. Every detail mattered, from the materials and the finish to the wording and its positioning.
The installation required close coordination between Intaglio and Liverpool Football Club’s stadium operations, project management and design teams. The work had to meet the club’s standards while respecting the importance of the space and the depth of emotion connected to it.
Above all, this was a project that demanded care, discretion and precision throughout.
The Solution
Intaglio managed the installation of the Survivors’ Bench at Anfield, working alongside multiple Liverpool Football Club departments to ensure the project was delivered smoothly and respectfully.

Designed to last
The bench was crafted from oak, selected for its strength and longevity. The surrounding granite elements feature sandblasted text, designed to provide a lasting and dignified memorial presence.

Bronze plaque integration
A bronze plaque was carefully installed within the flooring, carrying a message of gratitude to those who endeavoured to save lives on 15 April 1989. Integrating this element into the existing memorial area required detailed planning and careful placement.

Delivered with compassion and sensitivity
From production through to final installation, the focus remained on accuracy, quality and above all, delivering a meaningful project with compassion and sensitivity.
The Results
The Survivors’ Bench now stands beside the Hillsborough Memorial as a permanent tribute.
It provides survivors and their families with a dedicated place for reflection, and reinforces the unity and resilience that have defined the pursuit of truth and justice over the past 35 years.
The Directors and Members of the Hillsborough Survivors Support Alliance welcomed the bench as a meaningful addition to Anfield and a fitting symbol of strength.
