A Lasting Legacy at Wellington College

As part of Wellington Colleges 150th Anniversary and their Library Appeal, we were invited to design a striking personalisation scheme that would not only raise vital funds for the redesign and extension of the college’s library and renovation of the Prince’s Quad, but also leave a lasting legacy to those who had kindly donated and made it possible.

The project offered all alumni, parents and Friends of Wellington the opportunity to contribute to the fundraiser through the purchase of a personalised granite stone, which would be sited within the new library extension. We prepared designs for the inclusion of up to 1,000 stones in the floor of the pathways leading from the Library to the Chapel and the Library to the Back Quad, with each one containing the pupil’s name, house and graduation year, along with the Wellington crest.

We believe that the Wellington College project proved to be a success because it was one that gave donors a very personal recognition of their donation. The generosity of donors played a major part in making the new facilities at the college possible and the striking pathway design provides a lasting legacy of this generosity. By targeting people with a link to the college, they naturally had an interest in its ongoing success and the pathway installation provides a way to clearly demonstrate to everyone who uses the facilities exactly who has made these major improvements possible.
